random ten lyrics game

Hey boys and girls!  It's time for another exciting round of the random ten lyrics game.  Here's how it works:  Inspired by the random ten iPod shuffle meme that's going around these days, I decided to turn mine into a game, post the lyrics to my songs, and make y'all guess the titles and artists.  If a song is considered a standard, or has been recorded by various artists, just the title will do (though we will all think you very smart if you know who wrote it).  Here is this week's selection:

1. The city streets are wet again with rain, but I'm walking just the same.

What's scarier than seeing your ass in a mirror in a department store dressing room?  Knowing that everyone else sees your ass like this all the time.  It's the realization that the horrendous vision before you (behind you?) is indeed your ass, and it walks around unsupervised day in and day out and everyone can see it, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.  What has happened to my ass?  I used to have a pretty cute ass.  It's never been a small ass, mind you, but it used to be cute nonetheless.  Now it just sort of sits there, without much shape or definition.  It has no oomph, no personality, no bootylicousness at all.  It's just my ass, and I have to live with it.  At least I don't have to look at it very often.  The rest of you, you're on your own.

super fantastic

I'm feeling overwhelmed at work to the point of giddyness these days.  So, my co-worker and I have declared it talk like the Manolo day today, and we are having so much of the fun!  We are super fantastic and even though we don't care that much about the shoes, we both love the blogs, and the nina she say, go visit the the Manolo because he will make you wear the smile.

not in your hand

I have discovered the joy that is Peanut Butter M&M's.  Why has no one told me before how yummy they are, how crunchy on the outside, yet how creamy in the middle?  How the chocolate and peanut buttery goodness all blend together in your mouth, but there is no annoying little foil thing to unwrap like with miniature Reese's cups? And there is crunch, a lovely, light crispy crunch, followed by creamy richness and chocolate. And peanut butter. Did you really think you could keep this from me forever?  Well, you couldn't, the secret is out, and all you other afternoon snacks can just get lost, 'cause I've got a new love, and the rest of y'all are just looking tired and sad.  Except for you, Scharffenberger 70% Cocoa bar.  You're still special.  I just can't afford you.

Here are the answers to yesterday's "random ten, with a twist" quiz.  Thanks for playing!  I've put them in the extended entry in case anybody still wants to take a guess.  Nobody has gotten #9 yet, which is admittedly rather obscure, and there are some where we have the artist, but no song title, so there's lotsa fun still to be had!

Because nina turns 40 is more fun than your average blog (or perhaps because nina is a pain in the ass), here's my twist on the iPod random shuffle 10 song meme that all the cool kids are posting these days.  I'm going to give you the lyrics to my ten songs, and you, dear readers, must tell me the artist and title.  Full disclosure:  these are not really ten random songs as about a third of my stuff is in Spanish; while I know you guys are smart, I don't think that many of you are bilingue. 

1. Sometimes, even music cannot substitute for tears.

this morning

The city smelled strongly of roasting coffee this morning as I walked from my car to the office.  It was 52 degrees, and I noticed that the crocuses are already pushing their way up through the wet earth.  Earlier, I  had cracked open my window shades to catch a glimpse of the bright pink sky.  Now, the barest shadow of Mt. Rainier looms in the distance beyond the skyscrapers, and Elliot Bay is glinting soft and gray beneath the slow heavy ships.  My office is filled with light, and I am comforted by the hum of the heating vent above me.
