July's been a hell of a rollercoaster ride. Started with the death of my grandmother on the first. The next week I learn that my beloved supervisor and mentor is leaving. Then the marvelous intensity of the Writers' Conference, followed by the upheaval and sadness at work left in the wake of supervisor's departure. Hijo's childcare situation this summer has been a crazy-ass quilt of something different each week, which means a different drop-off and pick-up schedule and no chance to get into any sort of routine or rhythm. Had another story published and well-received in the local paper, and accepted an assignment for another (had to ask for my first deadline extension, too - aack!). Got a small gift from the estate of my grandmother which has allowed me to finally purchase a digital SLR, which makes me insanely happy - yet how awful to benefit from the death of a loved one.
Here's to a new moon and a new month. Hope this one is slightly less eventful.
I think your blog and photos are great. Can you post a link to your newspaper article?
Have you thought about becoming an air traffic controller? The skills you are picking up scheduling daycare can translate into some dough at an airport. That's how I feel when my boys are sick, my car won't start and my deadlines loom.
Here's my chance to say something sappy but I have a feeling you're not a sappy person - I'm sorry things are bad - good stuff will happen.
take care

I'm betting that your grandmother would be tickled to know that she could give you a gift that you are insanely happy with. I'm also betting you will always remember her fondly when you use that camera. No guilt...only positive thoughts.

kg: Thank you. The Leader doesn't post all of the stories that run in the print version online, and my latest wasn't included on the web. Maybe next time.
xath: I think you're probably right. But it still feels odd.
