Because I am stressing about other things, I found it quite therapeutic when the flush handle on the toilet broke and I had to fix it. I am actually quite handy, and it took all of five minutes to run to the hardware store for the part and less than a minute to install it. If I were a plumber, I could have charged someone fifty bucks for that!
As my mother pointed out, it really is up to the landlord to do that kind of thing, but it was much much simpler to just do it myself. I'd have to clean house for an hour before I could even let the landlord inside.
Instead, I got to take care of something tangible and easy. It was broken, now it works. If only I could solve everything in my life so simply.
It feels so good to be a capable person and I get a special kick out of doing those things my former spouse considered his purview. Sending best wishes your way for good results on the second interview tomorrow.
