In an effort to jog myself out of the blue funk I've been wandering around in lately, I decided to get out of the house (I stayed home in pajamas all day yesterday). It was chilly and breezy and I was determined not to enjoy one single minute of my walk. As I neared downtown, I realized that the Tyler Street Coffee House has finally re-opened. I'd been hearing all sorts of good things about this place, and longing for a true coffee house to hang out in. But they've been closed for renovation since I've been here. At one point there was talk that they would abandon their coffee house gig altogether and become a cafe serving sandwiches and such. Yawn. The weeks went by and the store sat empty. Finally a sign appeared in the front window (which was otherwise covered in newspaper). It announced that they would be opening again sometime in April and would remain a coffee house. Hooray!
With great pleasure I came down the hill to find the windows uncovered and folks inside drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. I quickly joined them, ordering a macchiato and a deservedly famous cinnamon twist. I was in heaven. The coffee was yummy, the cinnamon twist was so good that I licked my fingers and had to stop myself from licking the plate, the atmosphere was comfortable and lively. I started to feel ever so much better. I'm sure this had nothing whatsoever to do with the sugar and caffeine and everything to do with the fact that I was in my element. Is there anyplace happier than a good coffee shop? I don't think so.
And so it seems that perhaps I am getting my groove back, or maybe it's just that Spring has sprung, or that the sweet clanging I hear off in the distance is indeed more cowbell.
(And if there's anyone left in the world who hasn't seen this yet, here is a link to the "more cowbell" skit.)
Whether it's good coffee, or Spring, or being in your element, I'm glad that you're feeling better.
